Celebrating Health + Safety Culture in Canadian Business

 

The Canada’s Best Health + Safety Culture Award, sponsored by the CEO Health + Safety Leadership Network and Thomson Reuters, is the top award in the prestigious Canada’s Safest Employers Awards program.

Organizations that apply for this award understand the correlation between organizational health and optimal performance. They recognize that receipt of the Canada’s Best Health + Safety Culture Award will strengthen their brand and firmly establish their organization’s reputation as a leader in creating sustainable workplaces and communities.

Eligibility

Canadian organizations that have been in business for at least five years, and employ more than 50 people are eligible to apply. Shortlisted candidates must agree to administer an employee safety perception survey provided by the Canada’s Safest Employers organizing committee.

Executive Summary and Topic Specific Narratives

An executive Summary of no more than 1,000 words, addressing the following, must be provided.

  • Summarize how your organization has inspired transformative behaviours within your areas of influence.
  • What is a positive demonstration of your culture in action?
  • What are the best aspects of your organization’s culture?

Candidates must provide narratives on each of the following topics based on a series of guiding questions.

  • Leadership, Safety Values & Action
  • Accountability & Integration
  • Corporate Social Responsibility and Change Management
  • Organizational Performance & Evaluation
  • The Journey to Health + Safety Culture Excellence – Lessons Learned from a Health & Safety Challenge
  • Injury & Illness Performance Data


Worker Perception Survey to Measure Safety Climate

Organizations shortlisted for the award will be required to have employees complete a worker perception survey.

Submission and Selection Dates

  • Deadline for submissions – July 15th, 2015
  • Perception surveys sent to eligible entrants – July 17th, 2015
  • Deadline for perception surveys – July 31st, 2015
  • Top three finalists notified – August 21st, 2015
  • Winner announced at the Canada’s Safest Employers Awards Gala – October
